The Vinemont High School has a rich tradition as an all around successful band program throughout Cullman county and across the state of Alabama.
The band program began at Vinemont High School in 1972 under the direction of David Lashley. Mr. Lashley served three years as director of bands, leaving in 1974.
In 1975 the band director was Ray McCulloch. Mr. McCulloch served for two years, leaving in 1976. Mr. McCulloch established the color guard at Vinemont in 1975. The band grew to 47 members in 1975.
In 1977 the director was Mr. Rick Ayer. Mr. Ayer served two years as director of bands , leaving in 1978. The band had 38 members at this time.
In 1979 Mr. Charles Reed became director of bands. Mr Reed would serve as director of bands for 10 years. leaving in 1988. During these 10 yeas band membership was around thirty members consistently.
In 1989 Mr. Jim Parker became Director of bands. Mr. Parker would serve as Director of bands for 4 years leaving in 1992. During this time the band grew to over 50 members.
In 1993 Mr Rick Whitmire became director of bands. Mr Whitmire would serve as director of bands for 15 years leaving in 2007. Under Mr. Whitmire’s direction the band saw growth and consistently earned superior ratings at marching and concert festivals. The average membership in 2007 was almost 70.
In 2007 Mr. Jon Wright became director of bands. Under Mr. Wright’s direction the marching and concert bands earned consistent superior ratings and grew to almost 80 members in the Marching Eagle band.
